Swastikas Drawn on 4 Dorm-Room Doors at NYC's New School
New School President David E. Van Zandt says the school does not accept "illegal, inflammatory and hurtful influence on campus."
NEW YORK, NEW YORK — Police are investigating after Swastikas were drawn on four doors in a residence hall at the New School.
New School President David E. Van Zandt said in a statement that the school does not accept this, "illegal, inflammatory and hurtful influence on our campus." Van Zandt said the NYPD was actively investigating the situation and the school was fully cooperating with them.
Van Zandt has instructed senior leadership to increase security on campus and to ensure that staff and faculty are on alert for any potential issues.

"Any attempt to discriminate, instill fear in or intimidate our students will results in serious and swift consequences both from the NYPD and The New School," the statement said.

Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed in on the incident, saying hate speech is reprehensible and has no place in NYC.

Earlier this week, someone wrote "Trump" on the door to a Muslim prayer room at New York University's Tandon School of Engineering.
In the wake of the presidential election, hateful and racist incidents have been reported across the country. The Southern Poverty Law Center has documented at least 200 incidents based on social media, news reports and direct submissions, however they said they have not been able to individually verify each incident.
According to the SPLC, the most common locations where the incidents were taking place were schools and university campuses.
