West Village Indian Eatery Named Among Best In New York City
A Southern Indian restaurant on Greenwich Avenue is reportedly one of the best options in the five boroughs for the cuisine.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — A West Village Indian restaurant was just named among New York City's best in the cuisine.
The ranking features high-end eateries, hole-in-the-wall spots, iconic neighborhood restaurants, and delis.
Semma, which specializes in cuisine from the southern portion of India, is among 23 restaurants included in Eater's recently released list of "23 Stellar Indian Restaurants in NYC."

Here's what Eater NY had to say about Semma.
"As with its predecessor Adda, there’s much emphasis on cooking as it’s done at home, with dishes like goat intestines flavored with curry leaf; and Mangalore huukkosu, cauliflower fritters served with fresh coconut chutney," an Eater NY critic writes. "And the gunpowder dosa is one of the best in town."

Semma specifically focuses on food from the southern Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
The restaurant's chef, Vijay Kumar, is from Tamil Nadu.
The West Village eatery has received coverage and praise from the New York Times, Bon Appetit, and Zagat.
It also has a cocktail menu and wine list.
The eatery's dinner menu serves up options such as Pesarattu (green mung beans crepe, red onions, kempu chutney), Seasonal Uttappam (rice and lentil pancake, farm vegetables, sambar), and Dindigul Biryani (goat, seeraga samba rice, garam masala, mint).
