106th Rescue Wing 'Salute Long Island' Flyover Friday

The flyover takes place Friday to salute healthcare heroes, essential workers, and first responders battling the COVID-19 crisis.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — In a tribute to front line heroes, the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing, based out of Westhampton's Francis S. Gabreski Airport, will conduct a flyover to salute COVID-19 healthcare workers, first responders, and essential employees on Friday.

The event, which takes place at 12:15 p.m., will feature three aircraft, an HC-130J Combat King II search-and-rescue airplane and two HH-60G Pave Hawk search and rescue helicopters.

The flyover will begin near Riverhead and fly over Rocky Point, East Setauket, Stony Brook, Holtsville, Blue Point, Sayville, Bay Shore and Massapequa before finishing around 1 p.m. near Jones Beach.

The 106th asks that individuals not travel to see the flyover but, instead, enjoy the show from wherever they are.
