2 Injured In Hampton Bays Structure Fire: Officials

The two were airlifted for treatment, fire officials say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Hampton Bays firefighters knocked down a structure fire that left two injured on Thursday, officials said.

According to the Hampton Bays Fire Department, a call came in at 2:09 p.m. about a reported structure fire on Bittersweet Avenue, with black smoke billowing from the residence. Fire officials reported heavy smoke conditions, the HBFD said.

Two people were injured and airlifted by Suffolk County aviation; the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to help them and also to set up firefighter rehab; they were assisted by the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, officials said.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, the fire department said.

The scene was under control by 3:30 p.m.; the Southampton Town fire marshal’s office is investigating, officials said.
