7-Year-Old, Mom Rescued From Water In Hampton Bays: Police

A good Samaritan came to the rescue of a mother and her child, 7, Thursday, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A mother and her 7-year-old were rescued from the water in Hampton Bays Thursday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, a call came in at 5:55 p.m. about "distressed swimmers" at Road K. Police said when they arrived, Good Samaritan Seth Korbin, of Southampton, had helped the pair out of the water.

Korbin was flagged down by other beachgoers; he believed he was being alerted to possible sharks in the water and then realized there were swimmers in distress, police said.

He immediately swam over to the swimmers to assist them to safety, police said. No one was hurt, police said.
