SPEONK, NY — A Westhampton man was arrested after menacing someone with what appeared to be a small hatchet, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on Wednesday; a call came in about a man chasing someone with a knife in the area of Montauk Highway and North Phillips Avenue in Speonk.
Southampton Town Police responded and upon further investigation, it was found that Elias Tintichitay, 37, menaced someone that was known to him with what appeared to be a small hatchet, authorities said.
Tintichitay was arrested without incident and no one was harmed; he was charged with one count of second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, police said.
During the investigation it was also determined that Tintichitay was wanted for a prior incident against the same person that occurred on Saturday, May 30, at the same location, police said.

He was released on both incidents on a appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date, police said.
