QUOGUE, NY — A boating while intoxicated crackdown resulted in one arrest Saturday on the East End, police said.
The Quogue Village Police Department, in conjunction with Westhampton Beach Police, Southampton Town Police bay constables, and New York State Police —agencies from the East End Marine Law Enforcement Task Force — implemented a BWI enforcement detail from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
During the operation, the coordinated agencies performed 24 interactions with boaters; out of those interactions, nine vessels were boarded for further inspection, police said.
As a result of the vessel boardings, a total of 10 summonses were issued, and one arrest was made for misdemeanor boating while intoxicated, police said.
Scott Scutari, 51, from Bellport, was stopped as a result of the enforcement, police said.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Scutari was operating his vessel while intoxicated, police said.
At 6:38 p.m., he was arrested and charged with navigation law BWI, a misdemeanor; he was released on a desk appearance ticket to appear in Quogue Village Justice Court at a later date, police said.
