HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A fire broke out in a commercial structure in Hampton Bays early Thursday, officials said.
According to the Hampton Bays Fire Department, a call came in at 4:08 a.m. regarding a blaze off Montauk Highway, in the Hamlet Green shopping complex near the former movie theater.
Upon arrival Hampton Bays Fire Chief Don Downs was confronted with fire self-venting out of two sides of the second-story building, which houses a restaurant, officials said.
Due to the large volume of fire on the second floor, master stream operation was used for the initial knockdown followed by a hand line attack for final suppression, officials said.
All visible fire was knocked down in less than 10 minutes, fire officials said.
No fire spread to the adjacent nail salon or yoga studio, officials said.
Mutual aid to the Hampton Bays Fire Department included the Southampton Fire Department, which sent an engine to the scene, the East Quogue Fire Department, wich sent a rapid intervention team to the scene, the Quogue Fire Department on standby, Southampton Town Police, fire marshals, and Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services coordinators, officials said.
