Bellone, Advocates Celebrate 25th Anniversary of ADA

County website redesigned to expand accessibility

Suffolk County, NY – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone was joined by Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman, representatives from the Helen Keller Services for the Blind, My Blind Spot, Suffolk Independent Living Organization, Suffolk Cooperative Library System, and officials from the Suffolk County Department of Information Technology and the Town of Brookhaven to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The bill prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, government programs and services and telecommunications.

County Executive Bellone and Legislator Schneiderman also announced that more than 20,000 pages of the Suffolk County website, www.SuffolkCountyNY.gov, have been redesigned to ensure those who are visually or print impaired can have access to information by the county.
