UPDATE: Brush Fire Off Sunrise Highway Under Control
The fire broke out Monday morning in Westhampton.
UPDATE 2 p.m.: After nearly four hours, the brush fire has been completely put out, according to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department.
Altogether, eight brush trucks, seven tankers and 14 different fire departments worked together to battle the blaze which destroyed four acres of land along the west side of Old Riverhead Road.
The Westhampton Volunteer Ambulance was on standby, but no injuries were reported.

Chief Ross Donneson gave thanks to the neighboring departments for their help. He said that if it was not for them, the fire would have been “much worse” and could have possibly crossed Sunrise Highway.
The fire occurred in the same area where a fire broke out almost 20 years ago.

Old Riverhead Road is now open to traffic.
UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: The fire has been declared under control. There have been no reports of any injuries.

Several fire departments are racing to the scene of a brush fire that has broken out just south of Sunrise Highway in Westhampton.
The fire started around 10:15 a.m. near exit 63–County Road 31/Old Riverhead Road.
