Building Under Construction Collapses In Westhampton Dunes
Heavy winds are believed to have caused the building to topple over onto Dune Road Thursday night, officials say.

WESTHAMPTON DUNES, NY — A home under construction in Westhampton Dunes collapsed Wednesday night, officials said.
Westhampton Beach Village Superintendent of Public Works Matt Smith said he was called to the scene at 945 Dune Road just around 11:15 p.m. The frame of what appeared to be a 3-story oceanfront home collapsed due to what was believed to be the heavy winds, Smith said.
The wind appeared to have gotten under some of the flooring; the house then toppled. "It was like a wind tunnel," Smith said.

Debris landed on Dune Road and a fully loaded dumpster, which was "incredibly heavy," was pushed out onto the roadway, Smith said.
Dune Road was 100 percent obstructed until cleanup commenced; a pay loader was sent to the scene and pushed everything, including the dumpster, back onto the property, he said.
