A Christmas Surprise For Motorists From Suffolk County Police

A happy story: The officer wasn't pulling drivers over to issue tickets — he was dressed as Santa, and had gift cards! Watch video here.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — No, the police officer pulling up behind the car was not out to be a Grinch and give out a pre-Christmas ticket.

Instead, Suffolk County motorists were surprised recently to find out that they'd been pulled over by Santa himself — and he was handing out $50 gift cards to Target.

Suffolk County Police Officer Alberto Acevedo was dressed as Santa while riding in a marked fifth precinct patrol car driven by a colleague when they pulled over 2 motorists recently in Patchogue, police said.

"Santa" surprised the drivers with $50 Target gift cards, and the children in each vehicle received candy canes.

“Community policing comes in all forms and our officers are truly dedicated to being involved in a variety of athletic, educational and interactive community and school events to engage with the residents we are sworn to protect and serve. This is the time of year when you also need some help from Santa to put a smile on the face of drivers and their families while letting them know we care," said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini.
