County to Treat Southampton Town Salt Marshes With Pesticides
Helicopters will be flying over the local marshes Tuesday applying liquid pesticide to control mosquito larvae.
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control will be treating several salt marshes across Long Island by helicopter on Tuesday to control mosquito larvae.
The treatment will take place from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The helicopters will be flying at a low altitude, dropping the liquid pesticide Vectobac 12AS (Bti).

No precautions are recommended to prepare for this spraying.
Human exposure from this operation is unlikely and the products involved have no significant human toxicity, according to a press release from Suffolk County.

In case of inclement weather, the treatment will be rescheduled.
In the Town of Southampton, the application will take place at the following locations:
- Stokes Poges
- Jagger Lane
- Apacuck Point
- Iron Point
- North Sea
