Crash Leaves 100s Without Power In Westhampton, Quiogue

PSEG Long Island had to put an "intentional outage" into effect so that repairs could be made safely, a media rep says.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — With a heat wave continuing to blanket the East End and temps soaring past 85 degrees, hundreds found themselves without power in the Westhampton and Quiogue area Friday afternoon due to a crash on Montauk Highway.

As of 1:30 p.m., the PSEG Long Island outage map reflected two active outages in the Westhampton Beach and Quiogue area, with 566 customers affected.

Elizabeth Flagler, media representative for PSEG Long Island, said after the crash, PSEG Long Island had to put an "intentional outage" into effect so repairs could be made.

Service is expected back on within 30 to 40 minutes, she said.

And, despite soaring temps, the 48 outages across Long Island, with 1,181 customers impacted, were average for a "blue sky day," she said.
