DWI Crackdown On New Year's Eve: Police

The Suffolk County Police Department will have additional officers on patrol on New Year's Eve to put the brakes on drunk drivers.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County Police have a message for motorists planning to drink on New Year's Eve: Call a cab.

New Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini and Chief of Department Stuart Cameron are announcing a crackdown on motorists driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol for the New Year’s Eve holiday weekend, a release from Sini's office said.

As part of an ongoing effort to keep Suffolk County roadways safe and free of drunk drivers, the Suffolk County Police Department will have additional officers on patrol on New Year’s Eve; patrols will be deployed throughout the police jurisdiction using STOP-DWI grant funds, Sini's office said.

"Suffolk County actively enforces DWI laws and takes a zero-tolerance approach for anyone driving under the influence and placing the public in danger," the release said.
