Westhampton Beach students explored their roots to see if any relatives had come to the United States through Ellis Island.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — The youngest students have been digging deep to learn about their family histories.

Westhampton Beach Elementary School third-graders in Megan Fay’s class have been focusing on a social studies unit on immigration. As part of the unit, students researched their family histories to learn if anyone from their family entered the United States through Ellis Island, a release said.

Kids also participated in history lessons on early American immigration, watched informational videos, and wrote letters from immigrants’ perspective.
