Family Loses Home, All Worldly Possessions In Fire, Needs Help

"Our clothing, our photographs, our books, our Bibles, all of our belongings. Everything went up in flames."

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — The community is coming together to help a Westhampton Beach family that lost everything in a recent house fire.

A GoFundMe page, "Lost Home To Fire," explains one mom's nightmare realized: "On Thursday, Nov. 15, I returned home at 1 p.m. after bringing my children to school and running some errands to find my basement windows broken. I immediately assumed someone must have robbed us; scared and worried I was making my way to the basement to see what we must have lost.

"Before I reached the basement, I looked up and saw smoke coming from the upstairs of my home. So I ran to front of the house. When I opened the door I was hit with a wave of smoke. My house was in flames," she said. "I ran back to my car and dialed 911, and waited for the fire department to arrive. Everything my husband, my two children, and I own was in that house. Our clothing, our photographs, our books, our Bibles, all of our belongings. Everything went up in flames. All we have left is the clothes we were wearing that day."

Although church friends have helped with clothing and food, the family's need is great, she said.

"We need to get back on our feet. We would gratefully appreciate any bit of help. Your donations will go to funding a new place for us to live, to replace our lost clothing, and to help my husband and I support our children. Thank you and may God bless you," she wrote.
