Finn McCool's Super Bowl Party Sets the Bar

Finn McCool's holds quarterback competition for the Super Bowl.

Finn McCool’s proved to be a worthwhile Super Bowl hangout. There was a good mix of Steelers and Packers fans creating an interesting dynamic.

Upon arrival, the manager at Finn’s, Jason Mazzio, said it wasn’t the greatest turnout but, he said, “the second half is always busier.”

He said Super Bowl Sunday can be difficult for bars because most people like to have their own parties.

Steelers fan, Sal Ambrosio said he choose Finn’s because " I come here all the time and I know everybody.”

When the Packers scored the first touchdown and their fans jumped and hollered Ambrosio remarked, “I love when these Packers fans get excited so early.”

One of those fans is Robert Atkinson. He said, “I’ve been a packers fan since I was a little boy.”

As the fans were watching, the bartenders were handing out free hats, necklaces and shirts.

Beyond the usual free food, drink specials and free giveaways, this is the first year the bar decided to have a quarter back competition. The competition took place out back in the parking lot during halftime. Participants stood a distance away from a target and attempted to hit that target. The player that hit it the most times in five tries won.

Mazzio was surprised how successful the quarterback competition turned out. He almost expected two people to come outside, but when at least 30 people filed outside and everyone was cheering and booing at each other, Mazzio decided they would definitely become an annual event.

After an overtime showdown, two winners came out on top, Al Daniels and James Klebonis. They will be basking in the glory of their win — plaque with their photo will be hung on a wall in the bar.

After halftime, the bar got rowdier—maybe it was the drinks, maybe it was the game.

When the Green Bay Packers took Super Bowl cheers erupted and everyone, even the the steelers' fans agreed that is was a good night to spend at Finn McCool's.
