Girl Scouts Create Community Resource Center At Elementary School

See what love can do to an ordinary resource room.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — What was once a resource room at Westhampton Beach Elementary School is now a haven for community members in need — all thanks to two caring students.

Natalie Gosnell and Cayla Kuey, both Westhampton Beach High School juniors, created a community resource center by renovating the existing resource room at the elementary school, adding new shelves and storage, painting a mural and stocking it with school supplies, clothing, and food for local families in need.

“We thought this would be a nice opportunity to make our mark on the elementary school,” said Kuey, who started the project as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award requirements.

Kuey said she asked Gosnell to paint the mural, which depicts scenes from Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax," since she's a gifted artist.
