Gunman Robs Shirley Bank

A Shirley bank was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon, police said.

Police say a man entered New York Commercial Bank, located at 950 Montauk Highway, approached a teller and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun at about 3:30 p.m. The man produced a note demanding cash and the teller complied with the robber’s demands, police said.

The man fled in waiting vehicle described by witnesses as a black sedan, police said.

The robber was described as a black male in his 40s, about 6-feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
