
HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Three Hampton Bays High School girls track stars made their hometown proud recently, showcasing their athletic skills at the New York State Championships.
Pole vaulter Maizie Poulakis tied for third place at the state championship with a jump of 9-feet, 6-inches, earning All-State Honors, the district said.
She achieved a vault of the same height at the state qualifier meet and previously won the Suffolk County Championship with a jump of 9-feet, 3-inches, the district added.

Discus thrower Asha Pensa advanced to the state championship after winning the Division II discus at the state qualifier meet with a throw of 111-feet, 10-inches, district officials said. At the state championship she threw 96-feet, 8-inches and placed 12th in Division II schools, officials added.
After winning the 400-meter in Division II at the state qualifier with a time of 60.68, runner Bryona Hayes advanced to states, where she placed ninth in Division II with a time of 61.56.
