Police Identify Hampton Bays Man Killed In Forklift Accident at Montauk Marina
The man was helping the forklift operator move dock material at the time of the accident, police said.

MONTAUK, NY-Update: Police have identified the man who died after a forklift accident at the Montauk Lake Club and Marina as Hector O. Duarte-Roque, 44, of Hampton Bays.
According to East Hampton Town Police, the accident took place at 10:54 a.m. on East Lake Drive in Montauk and involved a telahandler extended forklift and a pedestrian.
A 911 call came in about a Traverse telehandler extended forklift that was traveling north while transporting dock construction material when it struck a pedestrian, police said.

Duarte-Roque, police said, “was actively assisting the forklift operator in guiding/moving the dock material” at the time the accident occurred.
Duarte-Roque was transported by Montauk Ambulance to the Montauk Airport, and then by Suffolk County medevac to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The Traverse telehandler extended forklift has been impounded by the East Hampton Town Police Department for a safety inspection; the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call East Hampton Town Police at 631-537-7575.
The tragedy devastated the community. ”It was a rough call to go to,” said East Hampton Town Police Sergeant Chelsea Tierney.
