Hampton Bays Mobile Home Destroyed By Fire
The residents, a mother and her son, saw flames rip through their home, neighbors say.

HAMPON BAYS, NY — Fire ripped through a Hampton Bays mobile home Sunday, destroying the residence, officials said.
According to the Hampton Bays Fire Department, at 11:50 a.m., a call came in about a kitchen fire in a trailer located in the mobile home park off West Montauk Highway.
Upon arrival of 1st Assistant Chief Rick Nydegger, a reactivation for a working fire was declared and EMS was requested for a person with smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 45 minutes, officials said. Assistance was provided by the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Southampton Town fire marshals, the HBFD said.

Community members said the residents of the mobile home, a mother and her son, got out safely.

"Thank you to Hampton Bays Fire Department for their quick response to the fire," said Laura Balducci.
On social media, some lamented the loss of another home to fire on the East End at a time when the dearth of affordable housing has reached a crisis point.
"And just like that, our housing crisis continues to worsen," one woman wrote on Facebook. "Glad they were both okay, and thank God, and the Hampton Bays Fire Department, that the fire didn't spread to any other units."
