Hampton Bays School District Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For Athletic Complex
The complex was dedicated to former school board president and well-respected community member Doug Oakland.
The Hampton Bays School District dedicated its new, state-of-the-art athletic complex to former school board president and well-respected community member Doug Oakland, who passed away this summer.
The well-attended ribbon cutting ceremony, held on Sept. 4, paid tribute to Oakland, who was instrumental in the field’s construction.
“I know that Doug would be proud of the sense of community pride that this athletic field will create in the community,” Superintendent of Schools Lars Clemensen said. “It is a symbol of strength in our community.”

Following the speeches, Oakland family members, district administrators and Southampton Town officials gathered on the 50-yard-line to officially cut the ribbon on the new athletic complex, which features renovated track, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse fields, as well as a new football facility.
At the end of the ceremony, Oakland and her children – Briana, Caroline, Christian and Doug Jr. – served as honorary captains for the coin toss of varsity football game.
