Hampton Bays Students Learn About Environment From DEC
The kids learned about biomes and ecosystems — and met a turtle, snake, hedgehog and even a stick bug.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Are you smarter than a fifth grader? Hampton Bays Middle School fifth graders amassed a wealth of knowledge about the East End environment recently, participating in a program offered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
During the program, DEC educator Ron Gelardi spoke with students about biomes and ecosystems, which the students have been learning about as part of their science curriculum. He also gave a presentation on where different species of animals come from and how their habitats can be protected.
The students were also able to meet a live turtle, snake, hedgehog and stick bug.
