First-graders received a lesson in wildlife at the refuge.

First-graders at Hampton Bays Elementary School received a hands-on lesson in wildlife as they explored various wildlife critters, courtesy of the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.
As part of the educational program, which is meant to teach children about nature and its inhabitants, the students learned about the origins, lifestyles and eating habits of the selected animals.
Included in the program were Rosie the tarantula, a corn snake, bearded dragon and an owl. Under the supervision of Brendan Dickson, an environmental educator with the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, the students received the opportunity to touch each of the animals.
