Hampton Bays Teen Arrested After Firing Shots At Car Driven By Someone He Knew: Police

The vehicle had multiple bullet holes, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays teen was arrested after shooting at the car of someone he knew, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, on Saturday at about 6:41 p.m., a motorist pulled into police headquarters in Hampton Bays to report he had just been shot by an acquaintance while in his vehicle, driving on Red Creek Road in the vicinity of Dewey Lane in Hampton Bays.

His vehicle had multiple bullet holes, police said.

Southampton Town police patrol units, community response units and detectives immediately began searching the area for someone in possession of a handgun operating a black vehicle, authorities said.

New York State Police assisted in canvassing the area and provided a K-9 unit, police said.

The complainant was able to provide the identity of the shooter; an extensive search of Hampton Bays was conducted and the suspected shooter was eventually located and taken into custody, police said.

His is not being released due to him being a juvenile, police said.

He was arrested, transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; second-degree ciminal possession of a weapon, a felony; and second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, police said.

He was held overnight at headquarters for morning arraignment, police said.

Neither the complainant nor his passenger were injured during the shooting; the handgun was recovered and is in the custody of the Southampton Town Police Department, police said.
