Hampton Bays Teen's YouTube Video Cover of The Chainsmokers' 'Roses' Takes Over Internet

The teen is overwhelmed that her video has skyrocketed on YouTube and been viewed 2.7 million times on The Chainsmokers' Facebook page.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS - A local teen's YouTube cover of a popular band's hit songs has sent her music soaring into the stratosphere.

Lindsay Dunn, 15, who attends Hampton Bays High School, posted a video of herself covering the songs "Roses" and "Don't Let Me Down" by The Chainsmokers on her YouTube Channel. The Chainsmokers are a hit band who've secured a spot on the Billboard charts.

Not only did the video take off like a rocket, but the band itself got wind of her rendition and posted her video on their Facebook page — since it was posted on March 12, the video's gotten 2.7 million views and been shared 49,683 times.

Dunn even got a shout out from the band itself: "Respect! This girl mashed up Roses & Don't Let Me Down just using herself twice. Lindsay Dunn, nice work," they wrote.

For Dunn, the whole experience has been a whirlwind.

She became interested in music as a young girl, she told Patch. "My family has always been very musical. My mom sings and my dad plays the drums." She and her sisters, she said, love to harmonize together.

Dunn is not only an internet sensation, she's a star on the local stratosphere, winning the recent Hamptons Got Talent competition organized by the Southampton Town Youth Bureau. "It felt very rewarding to win Hamptons Got Talent because I have been putting a lot of time into my music. Also, the year before I placed as third, and I really wanted to try to do better," she said.

Of seeing her work become known worldwide, she said, "To see my video explode like this is so crazy. Every day I check my phone for new views, likes, subscribers and more. It's so fun to see what everybody thinks."

Down the line, Dunn hopes to become a professional singer. She'd like to audition for "The Voice" and earn a spot on the show.

Along the way, Dunn says she's been inspired by her mom Kathy Dunn as well as by Matt Iaporte and Donnie Klang of Loft Sound Studios in Plainview, where she recorded the video. Her family, including dad Michael Dunn and sisters Taylor and Carly, are her biggest fans.

"My family is very supportive," she said. "They always come to all of my events and are always there to cheer me on," she said.

Seeing her video go viral has meant doors opening for Dunn, who could potentially receive offers to pursue her dream.

"I am so grateful for my community and how they reacted so positively to my music," she said.
