Legislator Fleming Helps Seniors Keep Safe from Scams

Common telephone and internet scams will be spotlighted at an upcoming event, with tips offered to keep seniors from being victimized.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming wants to keep seniors safe from predators and scams.

On Friday, January 27, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman’s office and Fleming will meet with local residents at noon at the Westhampton Beach Free Library, located at 7 Library Avenue in Westhampton Beach, to discuss scams targeting seniors and how seniors can keep themselves safe.

“The last thing families need is to be scammed out of their hard-earned money,” Schneiderman said. “It is shameful that scam artists target people with bogus threats and scare tactics, but following a few basic tips can help you fight back and stay safe.”

“I would like to thank Attorney General Schneiderman’s office for providing this informative and important seminar to the seniors of Westhampton Beach," Fleming added. “My office will continue to look for ways to inform the public of current phone and computer scams so they can have the tools to avoid becoming victims of these fraudulent tactics.”
