LI Man Charged With DWI Almost Crashes Head-On Into Police Car: PD

He was arrested Sunday night, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Mastic man was arrested Sunday and charged with driving while intoxicated after he almost caused a head-on collision with a police car, authorities said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 9:46 p.m. when a patrol officer saw a motor vehicle that was heading south on Springville Road, in the vicinity of Good Ground Road, enter the officer’s lane of travel and nearly cause a head-on collision.

The officer then followed the vehicle, which continued to be operated in an erratic manner, police said.

An ensuing traffic stop investigation revealed that the driver was operating the motor vehicle while intoxicated, police said.

Richard L. Alvarracin-Gutama, 36, of Mastic, New York was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DWI and issued summonses for numerous traffic violations, police said.

Alvarracin-Gutama was processed at Southampton Town police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
