LI Man Flees Into Woods To Escape Police, Caught With Cocaine: PD
The Riverhead man was caught in Hampton Bays, police say.
HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested after trying to flee from authorities and being caught with cocaine in Hampton Bays early Saturday, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place Saturday at 2:53 a.m. when the driver of a 2018 BMW failed to stop at two stop signs before pulling into a driveway on Lynn Avenue in Hampton Bays.
When the officer attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle, Nykell Dean, 24, he exited the car and fled into the woods on foot, police said. Dean was located a short time later and when officers attempted to arrest him he resisted, and once again attempted to run away, police said.

Dean was arrested and found to be in possession of cocaine, police said.
Dean was taken to Southampton Town police headquarters and processed; he was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, police said.

Dean was held for arraignment and released on his own recognizance, police said.
