LI Tulip Festival's Last Week Features A 'Tulip Dig' For Visitors

Tiptoe through thousands of tulips, enjoy the mini-golf and barnyard animals — and bring a shovel to dig up tulips and bulbs to take home.

MANORVILLE, NY — Plant it, and they will come: The words might be the mantra for the magical Annual Long Island Tulip Festival that's taking place through this weekend at The Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden in Manorville.

Manager Marc Weiss said the fields were planted this year in just about a week with more than 2 million glorious tulips; there are still more than 300,000 tulips blooming, creating the perfect, colorful background for Insta shots and a place to capture forever memories.

The theme of festival is "Let's Bring A Little Bit of Holland to Long Island," and indeed, guests at the farm are steeped in the sights and scents of the Netherlands fields, bursting with a blaze of bright colors as tulips wave in the breeze under blue skies.

And that's not all: The annual Tulip Dig is underway; bring a shovel and take home all the tulips and bulbs you can carry, free with your entry fee. "Let's get digging! It's a lot of fun for the kids," Weiss said.

In addition to tiptoeing through the tulips, guests can also get lost in the Tulip Tunnel, which features information about Holland, play a round of mini golf, see the barnyard animals, and enjoy a bounce pad and other activities for kids. The farm features food trucks and live music on the weekends.

Admission is $20 per person; children 2 and under are free. U-pick tulips are also free with admission.

Wandering through the tulips, young and old are mesmerized by the beauty; with families soaking in the time together and watching as kids play happily on the bounce pad and more.

The Waterdrinker Family Farm is, indeed, a family affair, with many relatives involved; Weiss said. His brothers Joe and Kirk run the Long Island Farm Brewery in the potato barn next door along with his childhood friend Nick Giuffre, he said.

Upcoming plans for the farm also include planting with the children at the South Street School in Manorville, as well as at Camp Pa-qua-tuck in Center Moriches, where Weiss' mother Marcella Weiss started the popular Spooky Walk years ago that has since become a family tradition on Long Island.
