Little LI Girl, 2, Diagnosed With Blood Cancer: 'She's A Fighter'
A GoFundMe has been created to help Cassidy's family as they navigate the unthinkable. "Our lives have been turned upside down."

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — The community is coming together to help a little girl, 2, who was recently diagnosed with pediatric cancer.
According to a GoFundMe page, "Caring For Cassidy," organized by Carrie Genoino, on Thursday, March 10, the Slowey family received life-changing news.
"Sweet, spunky, 2-year-old Cassidy was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, a blood cancer most common in pediatrics," she wrote.

The GoFundMe was organized to help Cassidy and her family, including her parents Megan — who is originally from Hampton Bays — her father Chris, and her big brother Mason as they navigate a challenging time, Genoino said.
"Megan stopped working abruptly to care for Cassidy, supported by generous Northwell colleagues who volunteered their PTO," she said. "She will continue to be out of work for an extended period while she supports Cassidy during intensive treatment to beat the disease."

According to Megan, Cassidy was diagnosed with B-cell ALL suddenly. "Cassidy started intensive chemo right away and is expected to be in the hospital for roughly one month before a long road of chemo care at home for the next two to three years," she wrote. "Our lives have been turned upside down in a matter of days. We caught it early, and it is the best of the worst-case scenario."
And, she added, her little girl's positivity shines.
"She is strong. She is happy and in good spirits," Megan wrote. "Just as spunky as ever."
On March 26, Megan wrote that Cassidy was able to come home. "She couldn't be happier. We have a long road ahead of us with frequent visits to the hospital but hopefully she won’t have any more long stays like we just experienced. Now that she’s home she’s back to her happy spunky, self. She’s a fighter, for sure!"
