Man Burglarized East Quogue Home: Police

He's facing a felony charge after stealing, cutting wires to surveillance cameras — and eating food in the home, police say.

EAST QUOGUE, NY — A man was arrested and charged after burglarizing an East Quogue home earlier in July, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Friday, July 15, a 12:42 p.m., Matthew Maffia, 44, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, possession of burglar tools, a misdemeanor, and fifth-degree possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.

Maffia stole a pair of boots, cut the wires to video surveillance cameras covering security to the property, and ate food belonging to the homeowner, police said.

Maffia, who is homeless, was arrested outside the residence, transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing, and held for a morning arraignment, authorities said.
