Man Caught With Cocaine In Hampton Bays Also Facing Felony DWI Charge: PD

He was arrested Saturday, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated Saturday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 11:32 p.m.; a driver was observed traveling northbound on Squiretown Road near Old Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays, failing to maintain his lane and committing other traffic infractions, police said.

A Southampton Town police officer conducted a traffic stop and Daniel C. Cooper, 54, was determined to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, police said.

Cooper was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing, police said.

He was charged with felony DWI; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and other vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

Cooper was held overnight and was scheduled to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
