Man Dies In Long Island House Fire

The fire ripped through the first floor of the home, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man died in a house fire Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the emergency dispatch center got a call at 10:19 p.m. about a structure fire at 94 W Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. Police arrived to find a fully involved fire on the first floor of a two-story building, authorities said.

The Hampton Bays Fire Department and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps rushed to the scene; when the fire was extinguished, Pete McGuire, 55, who lived in the building, was found inside on the second floor, police said.

He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Hampton Bays Ambulance Corps with life-threatening injuries and later died, police said.

Detectives and the Suffolk County Arson Squad investigated; no criminality is suspected, police said.
