Man Found Slumped Over Steering Wheel Of Running Vehicle In Hampton Bays Charged WIth DWI: Police

The Riverhead man was arrested Tuesday in Hampton Bays, police say.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested after he was found slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle while intoxicated in Hampton Bays Tuesday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at about 5:13 p.m., the officers responded to Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays and found the driver of the vehicle slumped over with his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive.

The driver, Frederick Lopez, 67, was found to have operated the vehicle in an intoxicated condition; he was placed under arrest, brought to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing and held for morning arraignment, police said.

Lopez was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, police said.
