Man Killed, 1 Seriously Injured After Car Crashes Into Body Shop: Cops

The crash took place Sunday night, police say.

EAST MORICHES, NY — A man was killed and a woman seriously injured after a car crashed into a building on Main Street in East Moriches Sunday night, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the crash, which took place at 9:30 p.m.

Diego Balvuca-Rivera, 30, of Bellport, was driving a 2008 Ford Edge westbound on Montauk Highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into Croce’s Body Shop, located at 398 Main Street, police said.

Balvuca-Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

An unidentified female passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital; the two other passengers in the vehicle, both male, were transported by East Moriches Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Town of Brookhaven's building inspector was called to the scene to assess damage to the building; the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
