Man Strangles Person During Fight In Movie Theater Parking Lot: Police

The other person lost consciousness, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested Saturday night after he strangled someone in a fight, causing them to lose consciousness, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 8:36 p.m. in the parking lot of the Hampton Bays movie theater. John Martinolich, 36, was arrested and charged with second-degree strangulation, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, police said.

Martinolich was involved in a physical fight and placed the other person in a headlock, causing them to lose consciousness, police said. He then fled on foot after being told he was under arrest, police said.

He was arrested, transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing, and
held for a morning arraignment, police said.
