WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — After garnering a first-place trophy, Westhampton Beach Elementary School’s Odyssey of the Mind team secured a spot at the state finals competition at SUNY Binghamton on April 7.
The fifth-graders earned the placement after competing against 25 teams from across Long Island at the regional competition, held March 4 in Freeport, district official said. The team, led by coach Katherine Haack, earned the top spot at regionals by using their creativity, problem-solving and acting skills to form long-term solutions to problems created by competition organizers, the district added.
The Westhampton Beach School District said it wanted to extend its congratulations to team members Cole Dawson, Maya Farnan, Lily Graves, Fahtima Iqbal, Jaime Kelly, James Monserrate and Lilly Pereyra.
