Online Threat To 'Shoot Up' Unidentified School Circulated On LI: PD

Students shared the online post, written by a male who said he wanted to shoot up a school because he "couldn't take the bullying anymore."

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Hampton Bays students were circulating an online post Monday night from an unidentified male "threatening to shoot up a school, as he couldn't take the bullying anymore," police said.

According to Southampton Town police, authorities were made aware of the post at 10:30 p.m.; police investigated the post, and it was deemed to be non-credible, authorities said.

The post was made by a juvenile who lives in North Carolina, and who was confirmed to be presently in North Carolina; he was not specifically targeting any local schools, police said.

The local police in that jurisdiction were made aware and assisted Southampton Town police, officials said.

The findings of the investigation were relayed to the Hampton Bays School District prior to the start of the school day; additional police officers conducted extra patrols at local area schools, police said.
