RIVERHEAD, NY—Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) is proud to announce that it has been ranked by Healthgrades among the top hospitals in New York State: #2 for pulmonary care, #3 for gastrointestinal medical care and #4 for overall gastrointestinal care. Earlier this year, PBMC also received Excellence Awards for both pulmonary and gastrointestinal care from Healthgrades for 2024. The esteemed recognition underscores the hospital's commitment to excellence in specialized healthcare services to advance the level of care available nearby for residents of Eastern Suffolk County.

“The rankings reflect Peconic Bay Medical Center's continual investment in cutting-edge technologies, recruitment of top talent and a patient-centered approach to healthcare,” said Peconic Bay Medical Center Executive Director Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “The hospital remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of medical advancements to provide the highest quality care to the East End community and beyond. We are proud of all our teams who have made this possible.”

The high rankings in Healthgrades’ January 2024 State Rankings Results Overview highlights the remarkable strides PBMC has made in its journey to enhance the healthcare provided in Eastern Suffolk County. PBMC was also the only Northwell facility to be listed in the top five in both the gastrointestinal and pulmonary categories. PBMC chief of gastroenterology, Dr. Sara Cerrone, and chief of pulmonology and critical care, Dr. Rajeev Patel, both played a key role in leading their teams to these achievements. This recognition comes on the heels of PBMC also receiving Five-Star ratings for the treatment of heart attack, the treatment of heart failure and coronary interventional procedures, the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the treatment of pneumonia, the treatment of stroke, the treatment of sepsis, the treatment of respiratory failure and hip fracture treatment from Healthgrades.

In 2024, PBMC plans to open its expanded Emergency Department as part of an exciting $92 million investment that it announced in June of 2023. With this advanced suite of services, PBMC is poised to build on its track record of success and continue to provide the most advanced level of healthcare in the region.

Healthgrades ratings are determined by analyzing millions of Medicare patient claims over three years. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most—patient outcomes—Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.
