Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Hampton Bays: Police

The pedestrian was hit Friday night — and a Florida man, who fled the scene, was arrested, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle in Hampton Bays Friday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 7:24 p.m.; a 911 call came in about a vehicle striking a pedestrian on Springville Road just south of Montauk Highway.

The driver of the vehicle fled, police said. Southampton Town Police and New York State Police responded to the scene, where witnesses and officers performed CPR on the pedestrian, who was transported by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, police said.

Kenneth Riccioli, 55, of Florida, was subsequently arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a serious physical injury or death, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said.

The pedestrian died of his injuries at the hospital, police said. Identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

Southampton Town police detectives and the New York State Police accident reconstruction unit responded to the scene for further investigation, police said.
