Bridgehampton Man Accidentally Sets Car Ablaze While Trying to Kill Bedbugs
Man airlifted to the hospital following incident in Eastport Tuesday.

A Bridgehampton man soaked a rental car with alcohol in an attempt to get rid of bedbugs on Tuesday evening, but then he made a big mistake: he lit a cigarette inside the car.
That sent the car up in flames in a parking lot in Eastport, police said.
Scott Kemery, 44, was able to escape from the car, but he suffered first and second-degree burns. He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Kemery told police that he bought rubbing alcohol after someone told him that it could be used to kill the bedbugs he said were inhabiting the car.
The fire in the parking lot of the King Kullen shopping center located at 25 Eastport-Manor Road also spread to two other vehicles, but no other injuries were reported, police said.

Although Kemery told police he was using a rental car from Florida, the intense flames destroyed the car’s license plates. At the moment, the fire is classified as non-criminal, but police told Newsday they are investigating Kemery’s story.
