Police: Drunk Riverside Man Crashes Into Utility Pole in Hampton Bays

The passenger suffered minor injures, according to police.

A Riverside man was arrested on a DWI charge after crashing into a utility pole in Hampton Bays early Monday morning, according to Southampton Town Police.

Nelson Alvardo, 41, of Riverside failed to negotiate a turn from Bellows Pond Road onto Flanders Road and struck a utility pole, according to police.

Responding officers who investigated the crash found Alvardo to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest, police said.

The passenger, who was in the vehicle with him, was transported to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries, according to police.

Alvardo was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation and other traffic infractions.
