Police: Two Men Arrested For Assaulting, Robbing Man in Hampton Bays

The men attacked the victim at a residence on Penny Lane Tuesday, police say.

Police have arrested two men and charged them with assaulting and robbing a man at a Hampton Bays home on Tuesday.

Southampton Town Police responded to a report of a robbery on Penny Lane, near Wakeman Road, at 7:47 p.m., police said.

A 29-year-old man inside a private residence on Penny Lane had been physically attacked by two male assailants, police said.

One assailant struck the man with a baseball bat, while the second assailant held a knife to his throat and head, to forcibly steal $600 from the victim, while preventing him from escaping, police said.

Following an investigation, police arrested Jairo Arteaga, 22, of Riverhead, and Jimi A. Valdez-Banegas, 21, of Hampton Bays.

Both men are charged with first degree robbery, second degree assault, first degree unlawful Imprisonment, second degree menacing and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim, whom police did not identify, was transported via Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps to a local area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Both Arteaga and Valdez-Banegas were processed at police headquarters and held for arraignment Wednesday morning at Southampton Town Justice Court.
