Single-Car Crash Closes Part Of Highway; 1 Airlifted: Troopers

The crash took place on Sunrise Highway Monday afternoon, officials say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — One person was injured in a crash Monday afternoon near Hampton Bays that caused a portion of Sunrise Highway to be closed in all directions, officials said.

According to New York State Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim, a state police spokesman, the single-car crash took place just after 1:30 p.m. in the eastbound lane between Exits 64 and Exit 65. The driver was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, he said.

All lanes were closed nearby on the Sunrise following the crash but opened just before 3:30 p.m., Ahlgrim said.
