WESTHAMPTON, NY — A team is working to secure a 37' humpback whale found deceased on a Westhampton beach Sunday.

The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society said a team is working with Suffolk County Parks to secure the whale Monday and move it out of the surf after low tide during the mid-afternoon. Due to timing, the necropsy examination will begin Tuesday morning and will take several hours to complete, AMCS said.

The humpback whale stranding was the first reported in New York for 2019; a report came in late Sunday morning about the deceased 37' female humpback whale that stranded at Cupsogue County Park.
