Teens Learn Deadly Drinking Risks

Yes, drinking and driving is deadly. But teens learned that even drinking and walking can be dangerous at a high school assembly recently.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Westhampton Beach High School senios learned about the dangers of drinking and driving Westhampton Beach High school seniors learned about the dangers of drinking and driving during a hands-on STOP program on March 28 and 29.

During the assemblies, led by the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Department in conjunction with the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department, students learned not only about the dangers of drinking and driving, but also about risks when drinking and walking, good decision-making and Leandra’s Law.

After hearing from officers, students attempted to first steer a pedal car through an obstacle course, wearing goggles that simulated intoxication. Students then tried to walk the course wearing goggles that simulated their vision after drinking three times the legal limit, a release said.
