TWO PROMINENT LONG ISLAND NOT-FOR-PROFITS JOIN FORCES
IGHL Merges With Center for Developmental Disabilities

Independent Group Home Living (IGHL), a Manorville-based not-for-profit that provides services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, has merged with the Center for Developmental Disabilities (CDD), based in Woodbury, New York.
Since its formation in 1978, IGHL has grown into one of the foremost non-for-profit agencies in the Northeast, providing services to children and adults who have intellectual disabilities. With an $80 million annual operating budget, IGHL provides a variety of medical, occupational, recreational, and educational services to more than 5,000 children and adults and their families, through its system of 50 group residences, an extensive transportation network, day services, family support programs, as well as many creative opportunities for people with disabilities.
For 50 years, CDD, also referred simply as “the Center”, has been on the cutting edge in trying new therapies to help people with intellectual disabilities. While there is still no cure for autism, the lives of many program participants continue to improve in meaningful ways.

When the Center started, there was no legislation affording them public education, no schools devoted to their needs, no organization to care for them. Since then, CDD has been providing services to 450 children and adults through residential, day, and waiver programs.
The merger will make the IGHL/CDD organization among the largest employers on Long Island with more than 2,300 employees.

"This merger represents an exciting opportunity to expand IGHL services beyond Suffolk County, helping hundreds more children and adults with intellectual disabilities," says Walter Stockton, CEO, IGHL. He added that “many of the staff at CDD began their careers at IGHL and both organizations have created similar cultures that promote a family atmosphere.”
Nick Boba, the Executive Director of CDD added that “The staff at CDD and IGHL have been working closely for many years and our two organizations are a natural fit. We are very excited about the merger and the opportunity to continue our relationship.”
The merger will also put the organization’s revenue over $100 million annually.
